I don’t think we can begin without first acknowledging the ridiculously high adorable level that this little fella has going on. Arthur clearly loves the camera as he’s looking, or at least trying to look, at the camera in most of his awake photos. Which was completely fitting with his Outer Space crib bedding from Crate and Kids. And the cuteness goes on and on. It was really the perfect storm for his newborn portrait session.
Arthur was born just before Thanksgiving to Peiwen and Larry whom you may remember from their maternity session at Wrightsville Beach and included their lovable, energetic pups Raleigh and Laney. Arthur arrived just in time for the official family Christmas card photos. And of course Peiwen had already bought their matching Star Wars Christmas pajamas for their photos. Even the dogs were snug in their pjs…although they may not have been as enthused.
One of my favorite things at newborn sessions is to include family heirlooms. Whether it’s baby booties, baby blankets, or a parent’s favorite stuffed animal from their childhood. If you have it I like to incorporate it. Not only did Larry have his baby blanket that his mother saved but they had a framed needlepoint of the ABCs from Larry’s childhood that they hung above his Ikea changing table. Nurseries are where generations meet and new and old traditions are intertwined. One day maybe I will design nurseries too!
These may just be my two favorite family photos of all time. I knew as soon as I walked in their front door that I was going to make the photo above happen. I just love a good spin on a traditional family photo. And then the expressions on Raleigh and Laney’s faces in the portrait below always kills me. They were over it. But gah, it’s the best!
I have to thank Beauty Bar Boutique for giving this mama all the love for her early morning photo session. Also, a big thank you to Cloth Apothecary and Lantern Hill Knits for their gorgeous baby wraps and knits that provide comfort and style to my newborn sessions. And last but not least, Richard Photo Lab is the bomb film lab with the most talented and kind folks handling your cherished film images.
