In-home family sessions are my fave! There are many reasons for this but one of the biggest is that we don’t have to worry about the weather, the heat, the cold, the bugs. Yeah guys, in coastal North Carolina we have mosquitos the size of chihuahuas. They big y’all!
Also, families are always more comfortable in their own homes. Kids can play and are often super excited about showing me their rooms and their favorite toys. It helps me tell my story of their family when I know more about them and see them interact in their own space. Did I mention that pets are much easier to include in the shoots? We let them come and go as they please with no leash involved. They are much happier for it as well. 🙂
Not to sound like a broken record but we all know babies change quite a bit during their first year. So you’re not going to recognize little Miss Hazel from her newborn session, especially since she’s no longer swaddled up and sleepy for hours on end. Nope. In fact, she was practically running around the house.
We started in her parent’s bedroom because that was where we photographed most of Hazel’s newborn photos. I wanted to show just how much she had physically changed since that session a year earlier. She’s not sitting up and crawling all over mommy and daddy’s bed instead of snuggled up in the spot where we placed her.
And then it was play time! Hazel showed me her room where we played with her dress up accessories, pearls of course, and her soft rubber blocks that, at the time, were absolute favorites. It also provided these sweet moments of her playing and stacking blocks with her parents just waiting to knock them down with one swipe of her chubby little fists.
Do you recall me talking about letting pups come and go? Well this sweet pup just wanted to be around her family. She was so gentle with Hazel as she stumbled around her, crawling over her, and grabbing at her fur. Pups know where the “good” food comes from by this age and you can’t bite the hand that feeds you!
Are you planning your next family session? Let’s talk and plan your next photo shoot in the comfort of your own home. It doesn’t have to be perfectly clean because really, when is it? Let your babies and your connection to each other be the spotlight as you enjoy a morning playing with your family and not worrying about the weather for days on end. This shouldn’t be stressful. Family photo sessions should be fun! Let me show you just how much fun they can be!
